Manchester City star Phil Foden has praised Wydad Athletic Club for their spirited performance despite their defeat in their Club World Cup opener.

The Moroccan side suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Premier League side on Wednesday, with Foden and Jeremy Doku scoring for Pep Guardiola’s side.

After the game, Foden expressed his happiness with the team’s performance, stressing the importance of the opening victory.

“I’m very happy to have won at the start of the tournament,” he told Channel 5. “It was difficult at times because of the heat.”

“Wydad is credited with being a very strong counterattacking team, and they created several problems for us, but we dealt with them. I’m satisfied with the performance and the three points.”

Wydad will hope to secure their first win of the ongoing tournament when they come up against Juventus on Sunday at the Lincoln Financial Field with kick off scheduled at 16:00 GMT.
