Rafael Leao considering Saudi Pro League switch as three clubs line up €25m-a-year deal

Rafael Leao

AC Milan forward Rafael Leao is attracting intense interest from Saudi Arabia’s top clubs, with reports suggesting the Portuguese star is open to a high-profile move to the Middle East this summer.

Leao, who is of Angolan descent, is being closely monitored by Al Hilal, Al Nassr, and Al Ittihad. All three clubs are prepared to offer a salary package worth €25 million per year in a bid to lure the 25-year-old from Milan, according to Italian outlet TMW.

Despite Milan’s internal challenges and recent instability, the club remains determined to retain its talismanic winger.

However, Leao is said to be increasingly inclined to seek a fresh challenge, and Saudi Arabia’s fast-growing Pro League has emerged as a viable destination.

Al Nassr are reportedly considering Leao as a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, whose future at the club remains uncertain.

While the Portuguese international also has admirers in top European leagues, the financial power of the Saudi suitors is proving difficult to ignore.

Milan have set an asking price of €130 million for Leao, which is significantly below his official release clause of €175 million.

Although that figure would still mark the most expensive sale in Serie A history, the Saudi clubs are believed to be confident of negotiating favourable terms.

Leao has been a key figure for Milan since arriving in 2019, helping them to the 2021/22 Serie A title and establishing himself as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents.

Should he depart, it would mark a major shift not only for the Rossoneri but also for the growing influence of Saudi football in attracting elite-level players.
