South African outfit Richards Bay has been handed a long-term contract at Kaizer Chiefs, fending off interest from Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
The 23-year-old attacker has signed a new five-year deal with Richards Bay, keeping him at the club until 2030.
Yanela Mbuthuma has been a long term target for the two most glamorous clubs in Soweto due to his outstanding performance. However, in an attempt to ward off interest, the Natal Rich Boyz has handed the forward a new deal.
The 23-year-old striker has been a revelation since joining from the Umlazi-based Khabba Cup in 2023, contributing 10 goals and 7 assists in 83 appearances.
His performances have earned him multiple call-ups to Bafana Bafana’s preliminary squads, including the latest 41-man roster for June friendlies against Tanzania and Mozambique.
Aside Mbuthuma, the club has also locked down Thulani Gumede, Wandile Ngema, Thabisa Ndelu, and Ntlonelo Bomelo on similar five-year extensions.
