Stade Rennais keen on extending contract with Jérémy Jacquet
France-born defender of African descent, Jérémy Jacquet, is set for a longer stay at Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais FC.
According to sources, Stade Rennais are set to extend the contract of promising 19-year-old.
Jeremy Jacquet has drawn interest from several European clubs, including Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. However, Rennes appear determined to ward off suitors by tying down their talented centre-back for even longer.
Jacquet returned to Rennes in January after a loan spell at Clermont, where he spent the first half of the campaign. Despite the unusual move that saw Rennes spend €900,000 to bring back a player already on their books, the decision paid off.
Jacquet quickly settled into Habib Beye’s backline, becoming a key figure in the club’s impressive second-half resurgence.
Though his current deal runs until 2027, Rennes are reportedly set to activate a clause that would extend his stay by an additional year.
The move is seen as a strategic step either to retain the highly-rated youngster through the summer or to position the club to negotiate a higher fee should a tempting offer arrive.
It is understood that Jacquet is open to extending his stay at Stade Rennais.
