Former Orlando Pirates assistant coach Sergio Almenara is set to reunite with Jose Riveiro as part of the technical team at Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Riveiro bid farewell to Pirates supporters at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night, following a commanding 3-0 victory over Golden Arrows in a Betway Premiership clash.
The match marked the end of his tenure with the Buccaneers, a stint that lasted just four games shy of three full seasons.
The Spanish tactician touched down in Cairo on Wednesday to finalise his move to the record 12-time CAF Champions League winners.
Sources close to the former Pirates boss have confirmed that Almenara, who left the Soweto club in June 2024 due to personal reasons, will be rejoining Riveiro in Egypt.
“Carlos Nodar Paz is also leaving Pirates to join Riveiro in his new team. Sergio is also returning to Africa to work with Riveiro at his new club,” the source revealed.
Meanwhile, performance analyst Rayaan Jacobs, a regular figure on the Pirates bench known for his detailed in-game assessments, is also expected to make the move to Egypt alongside the 49-year-old coach.
Riveiro is further looking to strengthen his backroom staff by bringing in a former Juventus goalkeeper coach to round out his technical team.
With this high-profile switch, the Vigo-born manager is reportedly set to become the highest-paid coach on the African continent.
