Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi has been reportedly placed in an ‘induced coma’ following his injury against Leicester over the weekend.
The hard-working attacker suffered an abdominal injury on Sunday when he crashed into the post at the City Ground while in action for Nottingham Forest.
He received on-pitch treatment before attempting to continue, but could not do so because of the pain, forcing his substitution.
Early on Tuesday morning, Nottingham Forest confirmed that “Taiwo Awoniyi has undergone urgent surgery following an abdominal injury sustained during Sunday’s match against Leicester City.”
The club, in a statement on X, continued, “Everyone at Nottingham Forest sends their best wishes to Taiwo.
“The Club will provide further updates when appropriate.”
In the last few hours, reports in the English media have revealed that the early signs of the ‘urgent’ surgery were positive and doctors were hopeful of completing the operation today.
However, they were unable to do so, and Awoniyi has been placed in an induced coma.
It is reported that the Nigerian forward is in intensive care and will complete his surgery tomorrow.
