2025 U20 AFCON: Major boost for Ghana as striker Jerry Afriyie joins teammates for quarter-final clash against Egypt
The Ghana U20 national team has been handed a major squad boost ahead OF their clash against Egypt’s U20 national team in the quarter-final of the 2025 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The highly-rated teenager is back in camp after temporarily leaving the Black Satellites to fulfil club duties with Spanish side CD Lugo.
The forward flew to Spain to feature in Lugo’s match against Gimnàstic on Saturday, May 10, in line with a pre-tournament agreement between the Ghana Football Association and the club.
The 19-year-old had played in Ghana’s first two group-stage matches before being recalled by his club on May 6. Following his return from Spain, Afriyie is now available for selection ahead of the much-anticipated clash against Egypt.
“Ghana forward Jerry Afriyie has rejoined the Black Satellites camp in Egypt ahead of the team’s highly anticipated quarter-final clash against hosts Egypt at the ongoing TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2025,” the Ghana FA said in an official statement on Sunday, May 11.
Ghana’s quarter-final clash against Egypt at the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to kick off at 3pm at Suez Stadium on Monday.
