Egypt and Zambia played out a goalless draw in their second Group A clash at the Suez Canal Stadium, a result that keeps both teams in contention for the knockout stage of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The hosts, looking to bounce back from a heavy 4-1 loss to Sierra Leone, showed improved discipline but couldn’t break down a resilient Zambian side.
With this result, Egypt move to second place in Group A with four points, while Zambia sit in fourth with two points from two games, still in contention with two matches remaining. Sierra Leone now top the group with seven points after completing their group stage matches.
Egypt’s defender Ahmed Abdin was a standout performer, delivering a composed and confident display that earned him the Man of the Match award. His tackles, particularly in the first half, ensured Egypt avoided another damaging defeat.
Egypt will look to secure qualification when they face bottom-placed Tanzania on May 9th. Zambia, who still have an outstanding match against Tanzania on May 6th, must then face South Africa in a crucial finale on May 9th.
