Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi has a £9 million relegation release clause in his current contract with Leicester City, according to a report by the BBC.
The midfielder, who signed a new three-year deal with the Foxes last summer, saw the clause activated following Leicester’s relegation to the Sky Bet Championship.
The club dropped to the second tier after a narrow 1-0 defeat to newly crowned Premier League champions Liverpool two weeks ago.
Ndidi, 28, had the option to leave the King Power Stadium on a free transfer last summer but chose to remain with the club.
Leicester also turned down a bid for the midfielder from French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco during the January transfer window.
Since joining Leicester from Belgian side KRC Genk in 2017, Ndidi has been a key part of the squad.
This season, he has made 27 appearances in all competitions under manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
