Cody Gakpo celebrated Liverpool’s latest Premier League title by highlighting the significant influence of Dutch players on the team’s success.
Liverpool clinched the 2024–25 crown with a commanding 5-1 win over Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, securing the trophy in front of their home fans.
Gakpo, who joined the Reds 18 months ago, was among those who led jubilant scenes as the club marked the culmination of a dominant league campaign.
The forward, who is of Togolese descent through his father, praised the blend of individual brilliance and collective resilience that carried Liverpool to glory.
During the celebrations, he stated: “It’s amazing. We worked really hard this year. (We have had) special moments, lesser moments in the Champions League, but to get this is amazing.
“The Dutch impact, I think you guys saw it already. Virgil (van Dijk) is here already a long time, but this year Ryan (Gravenberch) is playing like how we knew him in Holland, he played that here.”
Gakpo also credited the tactical improvements introduced by Liverpool’s coaching staff, suggesting that their methods had brought out the best in the squad.
“It’s amazing to see him play like this and obviously the coach tactically brought the whole team to another level and I think that suits the players we have now.
“Hopefully we can gear up a little more in the next few years, but it’s a good start,” he added.
Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who played an important role throughout the season, echoed Gakpo’s appreciation for the fans and the team’s connection with them.
“It was really amazing. From the start of the game we felt, ‘Oh, they (the fans) are here’ and we wanted to do our stuff for them – and we did it,” said Gravenberch.
