Authorities in Casablanca have launched an investigation to track down the individuals responsible for the recent vandalism at the Mohammed V Stadium.
The damage occurred during the match between Raja Casablanca and Hassania Union Sport Agadir, with significant destruction reported to the stadium’s equipment, seating, and other facilities.
These areas had only recently been renovated and were showcased during the high-profile derby between the two teams.
The stadium had been closed for months for extensive maintenance and upgrades. Surveillance footage from the stadium’s cameras, which captured the affected areas, will be used in identifying those involved.
The perpetrators face severe penalties in line with Moroccan criminal and riot laws.
The $28 million renovation of the Mohammed V Stadium has given the venue a fresh, modern look, making it a prime location for future events.
The stadium is also set to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) later this year.
