Mohamed El-Shenawy is embracing the pressure as he prepares to lead Al Ahly into a high-stakes clash against South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League semi-final second leg.
The experienced goalkeeper and team captain knows what’s at stake. After a goalless draw in the first leg, the return fixture at Cairo Stadium on Friday promises to be a tense battle for a place in the final.
Speaking at a press conference, El-Shenawy didn’t shy away from the challenge, praising the strength of Sundowns but highlighting Al Ahly’s readiness and hunger to win.
“We know that Sundowns are a strong rival with an organised squad, but we at Al Ahly are preparing well and we have a state of focus and great motivation to win and qualify for the final,” he said.
“We are playing in front of our fans and we are confident in ourselves because we are African champions and everyone knows who Al Ahly is, which increases our focus ahead of tomorrow’s game.”
