Saudi Arabia keeps pursuit alive for Egyptian star Mohamed Salah despite Liverpool contract extension

Mohamed Salah remains firmly on the radar of Saudi Arabian football authorities, despite recently signing a contract extension with Liverpool that runs until 2027.

The 31-year-old Egyptian forward, long admired by Saudi Pro League officials, continues to be seen as an ideal fit for the country’s ambitious football project.

In a recent interview, Saudi Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal reignited speculation by openly praising Salah’s profile and hinting that the door is still open for a potential move to the Gulf state.

“He’s a global icon, an Arab and a Muslim figure of inspiration. He fits perfectly with the values and identity we are building in our league,” said the minister, speaking ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. “His decision to renew with Liverpool was his choice, but that doesn’t mean the interest ends.”

The remarks have added fuel to persistent rumours linking the Egyptian international with a high-profile switch to Saudi Arabia, where a number of marquee names have already been lured by lucrative contracts.

While Salah’s new deal with Liverpool may appear to offer security, the possibility of a future move to the Middle East remains a live topic.

Salah was at the centre of intense transfer speculation last summer, with several Saudi clubs reportedly making significant offers.

Though those advances were rebuffed, and the forward opted to extend his stay at Anfield, Saudi interest in the player has never waned.

For the Saudi Pro League, Salah represents far more than just sporting quality. His stature as one of the most recognised Arab athletes in the world, coupled with his marketability and leadership on and off the pitch, makes him an ideal figure to help elevate the image and reach of the domestic game.

This season, Salah has once again proven his worth in Europe’s elite football. The Liverpool talisman has recorded a staggering 32 goals and 23 assists in just 47 appearances across all competitions — underlining his enduring influence at the highest level of the sport.

While Liverpool have publicly expressed no intention of letting their star man leave, the long-term intentions of both the club and the player could come under scrutiny if Saudi offers resurface in future transfer windows.

The wealth and ambition of Saudi Arabian football continue to shift the global transfer market, and a figure of Salah’s profile remains central to those plans.

For now, Salah remains a key pillar in Liverpool’s plans as they chase domestic and European honours. But comments from Saudi officials make it clear: their admiration for the Egyptian forward is far from over, and a future attempt to secure his signature cannot be ruled out.
