Manchester United pursue Ivorian defender Evan Ndicka in bid to strengthen backline

Ivorian defender Evan Ndicka draws interest from Arsenal and Real Madrid ahead of summer window

Manchester United are exploring a move for Ivorian international Evan Ndicka as they look to bolster their defensive ranks ahead of next season, following a string of underwhelming performances in the Premier League.

Currently plying his trade at AS Roma, Ndicka has emerged as a key target for the Red Devils, who have struggled with consistency and form in defence throughout the campaign.

With 47 goals conceded in 31 league matches, United’s vulnerabilities at the back have been laid bare—prompting the club’s hierarchy to prioritise reinforcements.

Ndicka, a Paris-born centre-back who played a pivotal role in Ivory Coast’s recent Africa Cup of Nations triumph, is on the radar of several top European sides.

However, sources close to the situation suggest Manchester United have taken significant steps toward securing the 24-year-old’s signature, positioning themselves ahead of other interested clubs.

The towering defender has already attracted admiration from heavyweights such as Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, Juventus, Arsenal and Newcastle United, but United appear most advanced in their pursuit.

According to reports, club representatives have opened discussions with Ndicka’s camp in the hope of finalising a deal at the end of the season.

Despite already boasting a defensive unit that includes Lisandro Martínez, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, Manchester United have lacked cohesion at the back—an issue manager Ruben Amorim is keen to resolve.

Ndicka is seen as a player capable of bringing physicality, composure, and leadership to a backline that has failed to deliver consistent performances.

Currently under contract with Roma until 30 June 2028, Ndicka is valued at €25 million, according to Transfermarkt. His annual salary is reported to be €5.13 million, placing him among the highest-earning African players in the Italian club’s ranks.

United’s interest in the Ivorian defender comes at a time when the club finds itself languishing in the lower half of the Premier League table. Sitting 13th, the team’s hopes of European qualification are fading, and a major squad overhaul is expected this summer.

Ndicka, with his blend of European experience and international pedigree, fits the profile of a signing aimed at revitalising a struggling side.

Though Roma are unlikely to part with one of their key assets without a fight, Manchester United are prepared to test the Italian club’s resolve.

The Premier League outfit is reportedly ready to meet Roma’s valuation in an effort to get the deal done swiftly before rivals enter the fray.

For Ndicka, the Premier League represents a fresh challenge at a club determined to reclaim its status among Europe’s elite.

With the summer transfer window approaching, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the Ivorian centre-back will make Old Trafford his next home.
