Dayot Upamecano pushes for lucrative Bayern Munich deal

Dayot Upamecano is making waves off the pitch as he seeks a lucrative new deal with Bayern Munich.

With his current deal set to run until 2026, the French defender is reportedly basing his demands on the recent pay bumps handed to teammates who extended their stays at the club, per Kicker.

Bayern has been busy locking down its core players, and Upamecano seems poised to be next in line.

Behind the scenes, though, there’s some grumbling. Media reports suggest sporting director Max Eberl is catching flak for offering overly generous salaries, leaving fans and pundits wondering how Bayern will handle Upamecano’s push. The 26-year-old isn’t shy about leveraging his value since he’s been a rock in defense when fit.

Right now, though, he’s sidelined with a knee injury that could keep him out for months. This season, he’s racked up 33 appearances and chipped in with two goals. As talks is set to start, Bayern’s top management will have to weigh his worth against a swelling wage bill and a lengthy recovery.
