Villarreal winger Ilias Akhomach has taken a significant step towards his comeback after spending five months on the sidelines due to a severe knee injury.
On April 1, 2025, the Moroccan international resumed on-field training, though he remains limited to individual drills and technical exercises.
Road to Recovery
Akhomach suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) along with a knee sprain, forcing him into a long and arduous rehabilitation process.
The 20-year-old has been diligently following a structured recovery plan, gradually regaining fitness after months of gym-based rehabilitation.
Speaking in a recent interview on Twitch, Akhomach reflected on the difficulties of his recovery while acknowledging its benefits. “I’m following the medical program to the letter.
I want to get back with the team as soon as possible because spending all my time in the gym is tough,” he admitted, as reported by Le 360 Sport. “But at least I’m building muscle!”
Cautious Optimism for Villarreal
While Akhomach has returned to light training, Villarreal’s medical staff are taking a cautious approach to avoid any setbacks.
The Spanish club has yet to set a definitive return date, ensuring that the young winger does not rush his recovery.
Before his injury, Akhomach had been a promising addition to Villarreal’s squad, offering attacking versatility and creativity.
His return will be a boost for the team as they push towards their objectives in the final stretch of the season.
For now, the Moroccan international remains focused on completing his rehabilitation, with hopes of rejoining full training in the coming weeks.
