Youssef En-Nesyri is closing in on Hakim Ziyech’s goalscoring record as Morocco prepares to face Niger and Tanzania in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Atlas Lions will take on Niger in a crucial Matchday 5 encounter, where En-Nesyri has the chance to edge closer to Ziyech’s tally of 25 goals—the highest among Morocco’s current generation of players.
The Fenerbahçe striker, who is expected to lead the Atlas Lions is just two goals shy of matching the mark and remains determined to surpass it.
While Ziyech leads among active players, Morocco’s all-time top scorer remains Ahmed Faras with 36 goals, followed by Salaheddine Bassir with 27.
En-Nesyri, formerly of Sevilla, is also set to mark a personal milestone, as he prepares for his 80th international cap.
A goal against Niger would see him score in four consecutive competitive matches for the first time in his career, having already netted against Gabon, the Central African Republic, and Lesotho.
On the club front, the Moroccan forward has been in sensational form this season, tallying 36 goal contributions for Fenerbahçe—scoring 29 goals and providing seven assists.
Following their clash against Niger, Morocco will host Tanzania on Tuesday for Matchday 6, as they continue to lead Group E in their pursuit of World Cup qualification.
