‘Beating Atlético Madrid is a big blow in the LaLiga title race’ – Lamine Yamal

Barcelona attacker Lamine Yamal believes their dramatic comeback victory against Atlético Madrid could be pivotal in the La Liga title race.

On Sunday, Barcelona overturned a two-goal deficit to win 4-2 at the Metropolitano, with the Spanish international of Moroccan descent contributing a stoppage-time winner.

The match saw Atlético Madrid take a 2-0 lead, with Julián Álvarez scoring just before halftime and Alexander Sorloth adding another in the 70th minute.

However, Barcelona responded swiftly; Lewandowski reduced the deficit in the 72nd minute, and Torres equalized six minutes later.

Yamal’s deflected effort in stoppage time gave Barcelona the lead, and Torres secured the win with his second goal.

This victory places Barcelona level with Real Madrid at 60 points, with Barcelona having a game in hand. Atlético Madrid remains third with 56 points.

Yamal expressed his joy after the match, stating, “I’m very happy with the victory. The three points were very important. We were all in the dressing room celebrating, we were having fun together and now we are very happy.

“The feelings of anger and stress brought out our best side. Robert Lewandowski’s goal was very important, as was Ferran’s for 2-2. Then the others came out almost by themselves.”

“I knew that if I scored, it would be in important matches. I don’t care if I don’t score in matches that the team is winning.

“Beating Atlético today is a big blow. It means taking back the lead in the standings with one game less.”
