Lamine Yamal's future at Barcelona hits unexpected roadblock

Barcelona are eager to lock down Lamine Yamal with a long-term contract, but negotiations are proving trickier than expected.

Reports from AS journalist Juan Jimenez indicate that while optimism remains, securing the young winger’s future isn’t as straightforward as once thought.

For months, it has been assumed that Yamal would sign an extended deal upon turning 18. His agent, Jorge Mendes, recently reaffirmed the player’s commitment to the club.

Barcelona had already renewed Yamal’s contract in 2023, binding him until 2026. However, FIFA regulations only allowed a three-year deal due to his age. Now, with his 18th birthday approaching, the club is keen to finalize a longer agreement.

Despite both parties being aligned on the renewal, new challenges over terms and clauses have emerged, complicating talks.

Barcelona remain confident but acknowledge that discussions are proving “more delicate than expected.” While the club remains hopeful, the situation is evolving in ways that demand careful handling.
