Pyramids FC goalkeeper Ahmed El Shenawy is on the verge of rejoining Egypt’s national team for the upcoming international break in March.
The Pharaohs’ technical staff, led by Hossam Hassan, is set to announce the squad list within hours, preparing for matches against Ethiopia and Sierra Leone on the 21st and 26th of this month in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Sources within the Egyptian team have revealed that El Shenawy is under consideration for a comeback, following his impressive performances both domestically and continentally. This season, he has featured in 25 games for Pyramids FC, maintaining clean sheets in 11 of them.
The coaching staff has already confirmed the inclusion of Al-Ahly duo Mohamed El-Shennawi and Mustafa Schubert, alongside Zamalek’s Mohamed Awad. El Shenawy’s potential return would bolster Egypt’s goalkeeping options as they aim to secure their spot in the World Cup.
As it stands, Egypt leads Group A in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with 10 points, followed by Guinea-Bissau with 6 points, Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone each with 5 points, Ethiopia with 3 points, and Djibouti with 1 point.
Fans across the nation eagerly anticipate El Shenawy’s return to the national team, hoping his experience and form will contribute to Egypt’s success on the road to the World Cup.
