England-born teenager of Nigerian descent, Ethan Nwaneri, was on target for Arsenal on Tuesday night and scored in their 7-1 mauling of PSV in the Uefa Champions League.
The talented teenager started for his team in the first-leg encounter of the Round 16 tie played in the Netherlands.
Arsenal wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Jurrien Timber opening the scoring in the 18th minute, heading home a well-placed lofted pass from Declan Rice. Just three minutes later, Ethan Nwaneri showcased his talent with a brilliant strike into the top left corner after receiving a precise pass from Myles Lewis-Skelly, doubling Arsenal’s advantage.
Mikel Merino capitalized on a defensive error in the 31st minute to make it 3-0 before PSV pulled one back through Noa Lang’s well-taken penalty just before halftime. Unfortunately, that could not inspire a comeback for the hosts.
Martin Ødegaard and Leandro Trossard struck in quick succession in the second half, while Ødegaard added his second of the night in the 73rd minute with a stunning effort from the edge of the box. Riccardo Calafiori sealed the rout in the 85th minute with a clinical finish off the post, rounding off an unforgettable night for Mikel Arteta’s men.
After his goal today, Ethan Nwaneri now has his first goal in the UEFA Champions League. He also has one goal after making six appearances in the competition this season.
Arsenal now heads into the reverse fixture with a massive victory and will look to record another win to book their quarter-final spot.
