The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has declared itself incompetent to rule on an appeal filed against the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), delivering a fresh setback to the complainants.
The case, brought forward by several Cameroonian football players on March 15, contested FECAFOOT’s alleged inaction over a complaint lodged with its Ethics Commission on November 16, 2023.
Judicial Rejection
CAS followed the precedent set by the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Appeals Board, which had previously ruled itself unqualified to handle the matter.
The arbitration body concluded that it lacked jurisdiction to assess the dispute, further complicating the players’ pursuit of justice.
The CAS ruling obliges the complainants to pay 7,000 Swiss francs to FECAFOOT to cover arbitration procedure costs.
Victory for FECAFOOT
The decision marks another legal triumph for Samuel Eto’o, the president of FECAFOOT, and his administration.
The plaintiffs have now faced rejection from both CAF and CAS, weakening their case against the Cameroonian football governing body.
As the dispute continues, the complainants must now explore alternative avenues if they wish to pursue further action against FECAFOOT.
