Moroccan club RS Berkane has expressed satisfaction with the recent ruling by the Swiss Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding Algerian club USM Alger’s protest over their Confederation Cup semi-final clash.
The match was never played after USM Alger refused to take the field, objecting to RS Berkane’s jersey, which featured the Moroccan map.
In a brief statement on its official page, RS Berkane acknowledged the CAS decision and ended with a notable remark: “This ruling by the Sports Arbitration Authority has delighted our supporters.”
While the club has remained largely reserved in its response, a source close to Berkane shared insights on the ruling: “The Swiss sports body did not penalize Berkane, upheld the previous match result, and imposed no fines. This confirms that the club adhered to CAF regulations.”
The source further emphasized Berkane’s commitment to sportsmanship, stating: “Our club respects sports institutions and their decisions. Right now, our full focus is on making history—winning our first league title and reclaiming the Confederation Cup. That is our priority.”
Looking ahead, RS Berkane is set for a crucial league encounter against Wydad on Friday night.
