Osasuna expresses interest in Chicago Fire defender Jean Alpha Diouf

Chicago Fire defender Jean Alpha Diouf has attracted interest from Spanish LaLiga side Osasuna, with negotiations reportedly underway for a potential summer transfer.

The 21-year-old Senegalese defender, who joined the Major League Soccer (MLS) club from Diambars FC in March 2024, could be set for a move to Europe after just over a year in North America.

Early talks between Chicago Fire and Osasuna

According to reports from Africafoot, discussions between Diouf’s representatives, Chicago Fire officials, and Osasuna executives have already taken place.

The Spanish club has outlined a plan to offer the young defender significant playing time in his first season and is preparing a formal bid to convince Chicago Fire to part ways with the promising talent.

Diouf remains under contract with the MLS club until December 2025, with an option to extend for an additional year.

However, Osasuna’s growing interest could see him leave before completing his current deal.

Rising through the ranks

Since moving to Chicago Fire, Diouf has primarily played for the club’s reserve team, featuring in 17 matches last season.

However, he is expected to be part of the first-team squad in the new MLS campaign, which kicked off last weekend.

Despite this, the opportunity to play in LaLiga could be a turning point in his career.

Osasuna, currently aiming to strengthen their defensive options, sees Diouf as a long-term investment and is prepared to offer him an extended contract should negotiations proceed positively.

A move to LaLiga on the horizon?

If the transfer materializes, Diouf would follow in the footsteps of several Senegalese players who have made the leap from domestic leagues or MLS to European football.

While Chicago Fire is keen to retain its young talent, Osasuna’s offer could prove tempting for both the player and the club.

With the Spanish transfer window reopening in June, further developments are expected in the coming months.

For now, Diouf remains focused on his MLS season while negotiations continue in the background.
