Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique had to step in to prevent Achraf Hakimi from escalating a tense situation during Sunday night’s clash against Olympique Lyonnais.
The Moroccan defender was shown a yellow card in the 35th minute following a forceful tackle on Argentine left-back Nicolás Tagliafico.
Frustrated by the referee’s decision, Hakimi angrily approached the assistant referee to protest, accidentally knocking down his flag in the process.
Sensing the danger of further disciplinary action, Luis Enrique swiftly intervened, pulling Hakimi away and having a brief but firm discussion to calm him down and prevent the risk of a red card.
Despite a goalless first half, PSG emerged victorious with a 3-2 win at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, with Hakimi playing a crucial role by scoring twice.
The former Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund full-back has been in outstanding form this season and will look to continue his strong performances when PSG faces Stade Briochin in the French Cup on Wednesday before hosting Lille in Ligue 1 at the Parc des Princes on Saturday.
