Genoa manager Patrick Vieira has backed Inter Milan to win the double in Italy after his team lost 1-0 to them on Saturday in the Italian top flight.
Despite the loss, Vieira, who hails from Senegalese and Cape Verdean heritage, expressed admiration for his former club’s potential to achieve a remarkable double this season .
The match saw Inter Milan secure a crucial victory through a late goal by Lautaro Martinez in the 78th minute.
This win solidified Inter’s position at the top of the Serie A table with 57 points, maintaining a slim one-point lead over second-placed Napoli, who have a game in hand.
In contrast, Genoa currently occupies the 12th spot in the league standings with 30 points, showcasing the significant gap between the two sides .
Vieira praised his team’s performance despite the defeat.
“It’s the best game, even compared to the one against Milan. But I’m very satisfied with how it was managed, Genoa showed they are organised and have the right desire to play for each other.
“We knew it wouldn’t be easy for our forwards, then I changed something up front to try to put pressure on Inter. It’s a shame we conceded a goal from a corner but we’re growing.”
Reflecting on Inter Milan’s current form and potential, Vieira expressed confidence in their ability to clinch the double.
“They (Inter) can win both objectives. They have a great coach and many top-quality players. They can do it.”
