Former Orlando Pirates defender Patrick Phungwayo has finally explained why he was arrested on a criminal act.
After calling it a quit, Phungwayo considered as one famous players in the last decade for the South African club ventured into business but ended up in prison on an inappropriate charge.
Phungwayo was linked to a criminal act after weapons were found in a car at his backyard.
Explaining his arrest, the former defender said, Me being arrested, I always say until I speak my piece and people will then understand and see it from a different angle than when people just write that I’m a criminal when they don’t even…or haven’t called to even ask me what happened, I’ll give you a brief, so that you know”
“I have a huge house. And my yard is so big that after football, of course, you’re not making a salary and I have people that will to say, ‘can I park my truck?’ or whatever because my yard is so big that it can accommodate over 50 cars, and I took it as a side business that thing until that tragedy happened that there was an Audi car that was in my yard that had guns and that was stolen. That’s how I got arrested. Although I didn’t know anything about it” he concluded.
From 2012 to 2017, he played a pivotal role with his team in African football, after which he moved to the Free State Stars team and then retired from football completely.
