Ghanaian forward Samuel Obeng is looking forward to making his mark in this season’s FIFA Club World Cup after sealing a move to Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club.

The former Black Meteors star, who joined Wydad from Portuguese side Casa Pia, is set to feature in the prestigious tournament in June.

Speaking in his first interview after his unveiling on Thursday, Samuel Obeng expressed his excitement about the move and his determination to contribute to the club’s success.

“I chose Wydad because of their ambitious project and also the confidence the coach and the club transmit to me. I feel, everything surprise me and that’s good. I’m excited,” he said.

“Personally, I will give my best and collectively finish in a good position. In June, we will give our best in the World Cup for the fans and the club,” Obeng added.

The Spain-born forward is expected to play a key role under South African head coach Rulani Mokoena as he embarks on his first club experience in Africa.

Though he has spent most of his career in Spain, Obeng is no stranger to North African football. He was one of Ghana’s standout players at the 2019 CAF U23 Cup of Nations in Egypt, scoring two goals.

Before his move to Wydad, the 27-year-old played for several Spanish clubs, including Getafe, Girona, Real Oviedo, Granollers, and Calahorra.
