Former Senegalese international El Hadji Diouf has backed the Lions of Teranga to finish first in their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 group.
Speaking during the draw in Rabat, the two-time African Player of the Year emphasized Senegal’s ambitions as defending champions.
We respect all the teams, but honestly, it is within our reach.
We can do it; we can finish first. That is our goal,” said Diouf.
He acknowledged the challenges ahead but stressed Senegal’s status as a team to beat alongside Morocco.
When you are a team like Senegal, you have to finish first in this group and prepare for the next matches.
Diouf called for strong preparation and fan support to boost the team’s chances.
We will work very well, put all the assets on our side, and also ask the Senegalese to support their national team here, in Morocco.
As reigning champions, Senegal aims to assert its dominance and secure a path to the final, building on its historic 2022 AFCON victory.
