Real Madrid forward of Cameroonian descent Vinicius Jr. has earned a spot in the Champions League Team of the Week, following an exceptional performance in Real Madrid’s 5-1 victory over Salzburg.
Vinicius netted two crucial goals, cementing his place among the week’s standout players.
While Vinicius’s selection is widely regarded as well-deserved, there were notable omissions.
His Real Madrid teammate Rodrygo, who also scored two spectacular goals in the same match, was left out. Kylian Mbappé, who is of Cameroonian and Algerian descents, also failed to secure a spot on the team.
The Team of the Week also includes other notable names such as Julián Álvarez of Atlético Madrid, who continues to shine, and Luuk de Jong of PSV, who added significant firepower to his side.
Barcelona winger Raphinha also made the cut after a decisive showing in the group stage matches.
The lineup features an impressive midfield anchored by João Neves (PSG) and Sudakov (Shakhtar Donetsk), while Raum, Gatti, Singo, and Calabria form a solid defensive line. Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow was selected as the goalkeeper for his commanding display.
