Bissau-Guinean defender Fali Candé has departed FC Metz to join Venezia FC on loan, with the Italian club holding an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old, who previously played for Portuguese side Portimonense, embarks on this new chapter aiming to bolster Venezia’s campaign in Serie A.
Candé’s football journey began in Portugal, where he trained in the youth systems of FC Porto and Benfica before making his mark with Portimonense.
During his tenure at the Portuguese club, he featured in 79 matches, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
In January 2022, the defender moved to FC Metz, where he made 85 appearances, playing a pivotal role in helping the French side secure promotion to Ligue 1 for the 2022-2023 season.
Eager to Tackle Serie A Challenges
Venezia FC, currently battling relegation as they sit 19th in Serie A, presents a significant challenge for Candé.
The defender expressed his excitement about joining the Italian side and his commitment to contributing to their survival in the league.
“I am really excited to be here and to start this new adventure at such an important club,” Candé shared.
“I am determined to do my best and, together with my teammates, to achieve the goal of keeping Venezia in Serie A next season.”
Candé also expressed his admiration for his new surroundings, including the city of Venice and the historic Penzo Stadium.
Describing the experience, he said, “The city and the stadium are wonderful and truly extraordinary.”
Gratitude from FC Metz
FC Metz acknowledged Candé’s contributions to the club and wished him success in his move to Italy.
The French side highlighted his professionalism and significant impact on the pitch during his two-year stint with the team.
Candé’s performances in Ligue 2 and Ligue 1 left a lasting impression, and the club’s management expressed their appreciation for his role in their recent successes.
As he takes his talents to Italy, Candé brings experience from both the domestic and international stages.
The Bissau-Guinean international, who has earned 25 caps for his national team, is poised to add defensive solidity and leadership to a Venezia side in need of reinforcements to secure their top-flight status.
This transfer marks another milestone in Candé’s career as he aims to leave a mark in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.
