Kaizer Chiefs forward Wandile Duba has emphasized the team’s determination to win the Nedbank Cup and secure a top-three finish in the Betway Premiership this season.
The 20-year-old remains optimistic despite setbacks in other competitions, underscoring the club’s resolve to break a decade-long trophy drought.
The Amakhosi currently occupy sixth place in the league, bolstered by a 1-0 victory over Sekhukhune United at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
While their campaign has seen disappointments, including a heavy loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout and missing out on the MTN8, Duba believes the goals set at the beginning of the season are still within reach.
“We see that the season is not going as planned, but our targets remain set,” Duba stated. “We are aiming for a top-three finish in the league and winning the Nedbank Cup.”
Kaizer Chiefs’ pursuit of silverware continues next weekend when they host amateur side Free Agents at FNB Stadium in the opening round of the Nedbank Cup.
A Rising Star with a Personal Drive
Duba has been instrumental in recent improvements for the team. His standout moment came in the 2-1 win over Stellenbosch, where he scored a crucial goal and was named man of the match.
Reflecting on his achievement, he dedicated his performance to his grandmother.
“I’m here because of her. I hope to bring her even more happiness in the future,” Duba said, expressing deep gratitude for her influence on his life and career.
Overcoming Adversity
Duba’s journey to professional football has been far from smooth. Originally from Mpumalanga, he moved to Gauteng in 2017 to pursue his dream, a transition that required sacrifices from his family.
“One day, I thought about giving up and going back home, but my family talked me out of it,” he revealed. “We went through financial difficulties, but they always tried to provide for us.”
Now a rising star at Kaizer Chiefs, Duba’s resilience and determination resonate with the club’s own pursuit of success.
Eyes on the Prize
With a clear focus on the Nedbank Cup and league improvement, Kaizer Chiefs are rallying to bring silverware back to Naturena.
For Wandile Duba, the season represents a chance to repay the faith of those who supported his journey and help the Amakhosi reclaim their place among South Africa’s football elite.
