Kelechi Iheanacho linked with move to African giants Al Ahly

Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho, once a rising star at Manchester City, has reportedly caught the attention of African football powerhouse Al Ahly SC.

The Egyptian club, renowned as one of the most successful teams in African football history, is exploring the possibility of signing the 28-year-old forward, according to reports.

Iheanacho’s time at Sevilla has been far from ideal.

Since joining the Spanish club, he has struggled to make an impact, failing to register a single goal or assist during his six-month stint in La Liga.

These performances, or lack thereof, have led to growing dissatisfaction at the club, with Iheanacho now being labelled as a disappointing acquisition.

Al Ahly is said to be keen on bringing the Nigerian international on board to address a pressing need in their attacking lineup.

The club is reportedly seeking a replacement for South African forward Percy Tau, whose departure has left a gap in their frontline.

Iheanacho’s potential move to Cairo offers the forward an opportunity to rejuvenate his career and find form after a difficult spell in Europe.

The 28-year-old’s career trajectory has seen significant ups and downs.

After making a promising start at Manchester City, where he showcased his potential as a clinical finisher, Iheanacho moved to Leicester City.

While he delivered some memorable moments at Leicester, including important contributions during their FA Cup-winning campaign, consistency proved elusive.

His transfer to Sevilla was expected to mark a fresh chapter, but his inability to adapt to the Spanish league has left him searching for a new opportunity.

Al Ahly’s interest in Iheanacho signals their ambition to bolster their squad with proven talent.

The Egyptian club, which boasts a record 11 CAF Champions League titles, has long been a magnet for some of the best players on the continent and beyond.

A move to Al Ahly could also represent a homecoming of sorts for Iheanacho, bringing him closer to his African roots while allowing him to compete at the highest level in continental competitions.

The player’s next move remains uncertain, with no official confirmation of discussions between the clubs.

Whether Iheanacho chooses to return to Africa to reignite his career or seeks another opportunity in Europe will depend on his personal goals and ambitions.

For Al Ahly, securing a player of Iheanacho’s calibre could further solidify their dominance in African football, while giving the Nigerian striker the chance to rediscover the form that once made him a sought-after talent on the global stage.
