England-born attacker of Ghanaian descent, Sam Amo-Ameyaw, is reportedly set to depart Southampton on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
The 18-year-old, who transitioned to senior football full-time this season, has struggled for consistent playing time at Southampton, making only four appearances under former manager Russell Martin and current head coach Ivan Juric.
Both coaches agree that a loan move would benefit the talented teenager, allowing him to gain valuable experience and further his development.
Juric, speaking to the Daily Echo, emphasised the importance of regular game time for young players.
“For the young players, playing is the best. They shouldn’t lose time. We have youngsters like Tyler Dibling, Mateus Fernandes, and Lesley Ugochukwu who are playing, which is good. If a young player is not playing, it’s not good. I think (a loan) is the best solution for every young player who isn’t playing,” the coach said.
The teenager was last included in Southampton’s squad during Russel Martin’s final game in charge.
However, with the January transfer window now open, Amo-Ameyaw is expected to secure a move to a club where he can gain more game time and continue his promising career trajectory.
There will be more clarity on the matter in the coming weeks.
