Black Galaxies coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has emphasized that Ghana’s approach to their CHAN 2024 qualifier against Nigeria is centered on preparation and strategy, not the historic rivalry between the two nations.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s first-leg encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium, Dramani made it clear that his team is prioritizing their tactical and psychological readiness over the pressure of facing one of their fiercest footballing adversaries.
“We focus on the team rather than the rivalry,” Dramani told CAFonline.
“While we respect the history, we are more engaged with our technical, tactical, and psychological preparation.”
The Ghanaian coach highlighted the importance of managing the pressure surrounding the match constructively.
“The players are reminded to channel the pressure positively, emphasizing collective performance over individual efforts,” he added.
Dramani outlined his team’s strategy for the highly anticipated fixture, emphasizing a balanced approach to both offense and defense.
“We’ve worked on defining clear playing values—being goal-oriented, aggressive, and effective in both attack and defense,” he explained.
“We emphasize controlling spaces and maintaining composure under pressure. Training sessions are modeled exactly like matches to replicate real-game intensity.”
Acknowledging the challenge posed by their Nigerian opponents, Dramani revealed that his team has been analyzing their rival’s playing style to incorporate tactical adjustments without compromising Ghana’s strengths.
“We’re carefully analyzing Nigeria’s style and integrating tactical adjustments without losing focus on our strengths,” he said.
The first leg of the qualifier will be a critical test for the Black Galaxies as they seek to secure a favorable result at home before traveling to Nigeria for the return fixture.
The second leg is set to take place next Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
With both teams vying for a spot in the continental championship, the clash promises to be a thrilling display of skill and determination.
However, for Dramani and his squad, the focus remains firmly on preparation and execution.
