Algerian-born striker, Karim Benzema is reportedly contemplating retirement from professional football at the end of the current season, according to Fichajes.net.
The Al Ittihad forward is in the process of finalizing his plans for the upcoming summer, but the club remains uncertain about offering him a contract extension.
While Benzema’s current deal runs through the summer of 2026, Al Ittihad is not eager to commit to another year, as parting ways with him could save the club a significant €100 million.
Benzema, who is currently the team’s top scorer with 10 goals in 11 matches, is tied for second place in the league’s scoring standings with Cristiano Ronaldo, just two goals behind Aleksandar Mitrović.
After a career filled with numerous accolades, including five Champions League titles with Real Madrid and a Ballon d’Or that solidified his place as one of the top players of his generation, Benzema seems to have already mapped out his post-retirement path.
The French international is expected to take on a role as a global ambassador for Real Madrid, particularly focusing on the Arab region.
Benzema remains the second-highest goal scorer in Real Madrid’s history.
