Sudanese football club Al Hilal has formally requested permission from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to relocate its home matches for the African Champions League to Libya.
The club proposed the Benghazi International Stadium, which has a capacity of 41,000 spectators, as its preferred venue.
This decision follows the challenges Al Hilal faces in hosting games within Sudan due to ongoing instability in the country.
In a letter sent to CAF, the club highlighted the difficulties preventing them from organizing matches on home soil and emphasized Benghazi as their top choice for group stage fixtures.
Micky Jnr, an African journalist with close ties to CAF, reported the development, noting that the request has been forwarded to the appropriate CAF authorities.
A final decision on whether the request will be granted is expected in the coming days.
The situation underscores the broader challenges faced by Sudanese football amidst the country’s turbulent circumstances.
