Daniel-Kofi Kyereh’s return to the pitch remains uncertain as the Ghanaian midfielder continues his recovery journey.
According to SC Freiburg coach Julian Schuster, the 28-year-old’s comeback is still far off.
“Kofi still has a way to go,” Schuster remarked during a press conference ahead of the Hoffenheim clash on Sunday. Kyereh has been sidelined for nearly two years following a cruciate ligament tear. “When you’re out for a long time, it’s all about general fitness,” the coach added, noting that while progress has been made, recovery is “a process that varies.”
The timeline for Kyereh’s return remains unclear. “Due to the length of the injury, it’s difficult to name a time frame,” Schuster admitted.
Kyereh joined SC Freiburg on June 27, 2022, and quickly made his mark, scoring his first Bundesliga goal in a match against Mainz on October 1, 2022. Days later, he netted his first European goal in a 2–0 Europa League victory over FC Nantes. Born in Ghana to a German mother and Ghanaian father, Kyereh’s dual heritage adds to his unique journey in football.
