Didier Drogba has stepped into the spotlight to defend Kylian Mbappé, slamming the criticism directed at the French forward as a “wave of ingratitude.”
The former Chelsea legend expressed disappointment at how quickly Mbappé, who played a pivotal role in France’s 2018 World Cup victory, has been cast aside by public opinion.
Speaking to RFI, Drogba likened Mbappé’s struggles to those of Tiger Woods during his slump, emphasizing the importance of resilience. “He is going through a tough period, both mentally and on the pitch, but like Tiger, he will bounce back stronger,” said Drogba.
Mbappé’s debut season at Real Madrid has been underwhelming by his standards. Despite scoring 10 goals, two critical penalty misses have added fuel to the scrutiny. Combined with his absence from the French national team after a subpar Euro 2024 campaign, the 25-year-old is under fire.
Drogba remains optimistic, calling for patience and respect. “Football is an unforgiving sport, but Kylian will rediscover his spark. He has done too much for France to be treated this way,” he added, urging fans to remember the legacy Mbappé continues to build.
