Real Madrid legend Predrag Mijatović has advised Kylian Mbappé to take a step back and calm down as he faces pressure and struggles in his recent performances for the Spanish giants.
Speaking on Cadena Ser this Thursday, Mijatović, a former player and sporting director for the club, shared his thoughts on the French forward’s current situation at the Bernabéu.
“He is a player with a lot of pressure and anxiety who wants to do important things to show that he is a superstar,” Mijatović explained.
“It would not be bad if in some games he stayed on the bench to soak up the atmosphere.”
Mijatović’s comments come in the wake of Mbappé’s challenging period with Real Madrid, where the star forward has not been able to hit the expected level of performance that the club’s demanding supporters are accustomed to.
Despite his potential, the pressure to prove himself has clearly weighed on the 25-year-old, according to Mijatović.
The former Yugoslavian international emphasized that Mbappé must adjust to the high expectations at Real Madrid, rather than expecting the team to adapt to his style of play.
“He must first get used to the demands of Real Madrid. It’s not up to the team to adapt to him,” Mijatović said, underscoring the club’s relentless pursuit of success and the intensity that comes with playing at such a prestigious institution.
Mijatović’s remarks also come as Mbappé struggles with his form, having faced challenges in recent weeks.
Despite his difficulties, the Frenchman will be eager to make an impact as Real Madrid heads into their upcoming La Liga clash against Girona on Saturday, looking to turn his fortunes around.
However, there is also the possibility that manager Carlo Ancelotti may heed Mijatović’s advice and rest the forward, with a crucial Champions League encounter against Atalanta looming on Tuesday.
With the spotlight firmly on him, Mbappé’s response to this period of adversity could define his future at Real Madrid, where both fans and experts are closely monitoring how he adapts to the immense pressure and expectations placed upon him.
