Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies players Nthabiseng Majiya and Andile Dlamini have expressed their excitement after earning nominations for the upcoming CAF Awards, which recognize achievements in African football between January and October 2024.
Nthabiseng Majiya, who has made a sensational start to her Sundowns career, has been shortlisted for the Young Player of the Year award.
The forward has been a standout performer, scoring 14 goals in the Hollywoodbets Super League this season.
Reflecting on her nomination, Majiya credited her success to the collective effort of her team and the support system around her.
“I am very excited to be nominated, and it is a significant achievement to be recognised for such an honour,” said Majiya.
“Football is a team sport, and I would not have achieved this without the incredible support of my coaches, teammates, and family.
Being nominated motivates me to push even harder, not just for myself but for my teammates and everyone who supports me.
This nomination also inspires other kids to believe in themselves and work hard to achieve their dreams.”
Meanwhile, Andile Dlamini has been nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Year award, a recognition of her consistent performances and leadership on and off the field.
The veteran goalkeeper has been instrumental in Sundowns Ladies’ success and continues to inspire the next generation of African footballers.
“In all honesty, I am grateful to be nominated,” Dlamini said. “I am inspired every day to do more because, as an African and a South African, I have a huge responsibility to inspire the next generation.
This nomination is truly a motivation to keep going and to continue striving for excellence both on and off the field.”
In addition to her stellar performances, Dlamini recently served as a draw assistant at the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2024 draw.
The tournament, set to take place from July 5 to 26, 2025, will feature 12 of Africa’s best teams vying for the prestigious title.
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have also been nominated for the Club of the Year award, underscoring their status as one of the leading forces in African women’s football.
The CAF Awards ceremony, where the winners will be unveiled, is scheduled for December 16, 2024, in Marrakech, Morocco.
Sundowns Ladies and their stars will be hoping to cap off a remarkable year with more accolades on the continental stage.
