CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe is set to visit Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in December 2024 to oversee preparations for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN). The landmark tournament, scheduled for February 1–28, 2025, will be the first CHAN edition hosted jointly by three nations.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Dr. Motsepe’s visit aims to assess the readiness of stadiums and associated infrastructure across the three host countries.

His tour will also include engagements with key stakeholders to ensure all logistical and organizational aspects are on track for the prestigious event, which features players competing exclusively from their respective domestic leagues.

During his stop in Tanzania, Dr. Motsepe will preside over a CAF Executive Committee meeting.

According to CAF, the meeting will focus on critical updates regarding CHAN 2024 preparations and broader football development initiatives.

“The CAF President will host the CAF Executive Committee during his visit to Tanzania,” read a statement from the confederation.

Among the key issues to be discussed are progress in the joint organization of CHAN 2024, the pathway toward achieving CAF’s ambitious $1 billion football development target over the next eight years, and updates from the joint governance and audit committee investigating governance compliance concerns within the CAF secretariat.

The meeting will also address final preparations for the CAF Awards, set to take place in Morocco on December 16, 2024, where African football’s top talents will be celebrated.

The 2024 CHAN tournament marks a significant milestone, being only the third time the competition will be held in the CECAFA Zone, following previous editions in Sudan (2011) and Rwanda (2016).

The collaboration between Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda highlights the region’s growing stature in African football.

Dr. Motsepe’s tour underscores CAF’s commitment to ensuring that the host nations deliver a successful tournament, which is expected to attract widespread attention across the continent and beyond.

As the eighth edition of CHAN draws nearer, the three host countries are tasked with showcasing their capacity to stage a world-class football event, further cementing the tournament’s reputation as a platform for domestic league players to shine on the international stage.
