Libya faces uncertain fate ahead of final AFCON qualifiers
The 6th and final round of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers takes center stage on Monday, with Libya’s national team entering their decisive Group D match against Benin without control over their own destiny. Sitting at the bottom of the group with just four points, Libya’s qualification hopes hinge on an unlikely combination of results in the day’s matches.
Libya, who will host Benin at 5:00 p.m., must not only secure a win but also rely on other outcomes to go their way.
With Nigeria already guaranteed qualification at the top of Group D with 11 points, Benin currently occupies second place on seven points, while Rwanda sits just ahead of Libya on five points.
A victory against Benin could see Libya move up the standings, but it would still require Rwanda to falter against Nigeria in the group’s other fixture, also kicking off at 5:00 p.m.
In other groups, several intriguing clashes are set to unfold as teams look to secure their places in Morocco for next year’s tournament.
Monday’s AFCON 2025 Qualifying Schedule:

- Sudan vs. Angola (5:00 p.m.)
Group F Standings:
- Angola – 13 points (qualified)
- Sudan – 7 points
- Niger – 4 points
- Ghana – 3 points
Group L:
- Malawi vs. Burkina Faso (2:00 p.m.)
Group L Standings:
- Senegal – 13 points (qualified)
- Burkina Faso – 10 points (qualified)

For Libya, Monday’s match represents their final chance to salvage a turbulent qualifying campaign, but the odds remain stacked against them as they depend on both a victory and favorable outcomes elsewhere in Group D.
