Algeria’s revamped line-up set to face Liberia in AFCON qualifier
Algerian head coach Vladimir Petković has made seven changes to his starting line-up for Sunday evening’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Liberia.
The tactical overhaul comes after Algeria’s previous match against Equatorial Guinea, signaling a strategic shift as the team seeks a strong finish in the group stage.
The much-anticipated clash will take place at the Hussein Aït Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou, with kick-off scheduled for 17:00 local time.
Fans are expected to fill the stadium to capacity, creating a charged atmosphere as Algeria aims to secure a dominant performance on home soil.
The starting eleven for the “Desert Foxes” features a mix of experienced players and dynamic talent:
- Goalkeeper: Alexis Guendouz
- Defenders: Youcef Atal, Joan Hajjam, Issa Mandi, Mohamed Amine Tougaï, Ramy Bensebaini
- Midfielders: Fares Chaïbi, Ahmed Kendouci
- Forwards: Riyad Mahrez, Baghdad Bounedjah, Amine Gouiri
Fans were already in high spirits during the team’s warm-up session, with chants and cheers echoing throughout the stadium.
The electric atmosphere promises a memorable showdown, as Algeria seeks to reaffirm its position as a powerhouse in African football.
With Liberia fielding a determined side, the match marks the culmination of the group stage journey for both teams in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
As the final whistle draws near, the stakes could not be higher for players and fans alike.
