Egypt coach Hossam Hassan eyes Zamalek’s Mohamed Awad as first-choice goalkeeper
Egypt’s national football coach, Hossam Hassan, is reportedly considering naming Mohamed Awad, Zamalek’s in-form goalkeeper, as the starting choice for the Pharaohs’ upcoming international fixtures.
The Egyptian national team will meet Cape Verde on November 15, followed by a clash against Botswana on November 19, in the fifth and sixth rounds of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
With Egypt already securing qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, topping Group C with 12 points, Hassan’s decision could offer Awad an opportunity to make his mark on the international stage.
A source within the Egyptian national team revealed that Awad has received strong assurances from Hassan and his coaching staff, who have prioritized the Zamalek shot-stopper for the team’s upcoming camp.
This move highlights Awad’s recent performances, which have been instrumental in Zamalek’s successes and appear to have convinced the coaching team of his readiness for international duties.
Awad’s standout performance during Zamalek’s Super Cup triumph over Al-Ahly has drawn significant attention.
The goalkeeper proved vital during the penalty shootout, showcasing his composure and skill under pressure to help his team secure victory in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Despite Zamalek’s loss in the Egyptian Super Cup, Awad impressed with multiple saves and even thwarted a penalty attempt from Al-Ahly, underscoring his consistency and defensive prowess.
As Egypt heads into these final qualification matches, the potential inclusion of Awad as the starting goalkeeper adds intrigue to the squad selection.
Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if Hassan’s decision brings fresh energy to the team’s goalkeeping lineup.
