CAF alters venue and referee team for Tunisia-Madagascar AFCON qualifier
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced adjustments to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Tunisia and Madagascar, shifting both the venue and the officiating team while maintaining the match date of 14 November.
On Wednesday, the Tunisian Football Federation confirmed the changes on its social media, revealing that CAF has appointed a new referee team from Gabon, led by Pierre Echo, with Cameroonian official Antoine Issouma serving as the fourth referee.
This move replaces the originally designated officiating team as part of CAF’s measures to ensure match integrity and optimal conditions.
In addition to the officiating change, CAF has relocated the match from Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium to Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.
Despite the venue switch, the match will still take place on 14 November as previously scheduled.
The Tunisian Federation stated that these adjustments were made to enhance both teams’ preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, set to be hosted in Morocco.
Tunisia currently leads Group A of the qualifiers, having accumulated seven points with two wins, one draw, and one loss.
Meanwhile, Madagascar sits at the bottom of the group with just two points, having yet to secure a victory with two draws and two defeats.
As the teams gear up for this crucial match, the changes in location and officiating are seen as efforts to address logistical concerns and ensure a fair competitive environment.
Tunisia’s position at the top of Group A contrasts with Madagascar’s struggles, setting the stage for a pivotal encounter in the road to AFCON 2025.
