Gambia clinched a place in the semi-finals of the U-17 UFOA-A tournament, a crucial qualifying event for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with a commanding 4-0 victory over Liberia on Monday. The win, secured at Stade Lat Dior in Thiès, propelled Gambia to second place in Group A, trailing only Senegal, who had already guaranteed their semi-final position.

The young Scorpions demonstrated dominance from the outset, establishing a 2-0 lead by halftime. In the second half, they extended their advantage, netting two additional goals to close the game at 4-0.

The decisive win not only solidified their spot in the semi-finals but also served as a statement of intent as they pursue one of the two U-17 AFCON qualification spots awarded to the tournament’s finalists.

Senegal and Gambia Await Semi-Final Opponents from Group B

With both Senegal and Gambia advancing, they now await the conclusion of Group B fixtures to determine their respective semi-final opponents.

Host nation Senegal had previously secured their place in the semi-finals following consecutive victories in their group-stage matches, establishing themselves as strong contenders for the tournament title.

Gambia’s convincing performance on the final match day underscores their potential as they advance through the knockout stages.

The semi-final results will not only decide the tournament finalists but will also determine which two teams secure their spots in the 2025 U-17 AFCON, adding another layer of significance to the upcoming games.

The U-17 UFOA-A tournament continues to attract attention across the region, as these young players vie for both regional glory and a coveted place in continental competition.

With Gambia and Senegal through, the stakes are set to rise as they prepare for the decisive stages in their pursuit of an AFCON berth.
