Zambia is gearing up to face Chad in a pivotal Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Friday, with both teams eyeing crucial points to bolster their chances of advancing to the 2025 tournament. The match, kicking off at 13:00 GMT, marks only the third time these two sides have met, with Zambia holding a slight edge in their head-to-head history. Their last encounter in 1997 ended in a 1-1 draw, while Zambia secured a 2-0 victory in 1996.

Despite their historical advantage, Zambia is approaching the fixture with caution, recognizing the unpredictability of Chad.

Zambian forward Kennedy Musonda emphasized the need for focus and discipline, highlighting the danger of complacency.

We are not underestimating Chad in these crucial matches,” Musonda said in a pre-match interview.

We need to stay sharp and focused, especially with two important back-to-back qualifiers coming up.”

Zambia, affectionately known as Chipolopolo, has shown consistent form in the AFCON qualifying rounds, but this upcoming doubleheader against Chad will be crucial in solidifying their path to the tournament.

With two fixtures against Chad in quick succession, the Zambian squad is aware of the significance of securing maximum points from both matches.

Anything less could complicate their chances of reaching the prestigious continental tournament.

Midfielder Kelvin Kampamba echoed Musonda’s sentiments, stressing the importance of delivering a performance that meets the expectations of Zambian football fans.

We have to give the fans six points against Chad,” Kampamba declared confidently, expressing the team’s determination to claim victory in both the home and away ties.

Our supporters deserve to see us secure our place in AFCON, and we are ready to give everything on the pitch.

For Zambia, the stakes could not be higher.

A win on Friday would put them in a commanding position in their qualifying group, boosting their hopes of making it to the 2025 AFCON.

However, Chad will not be an easy opponent.

Although their record against Zambia is not in their favor, Chad will be eager to upset the Zambian side and keep their own qualification hopes alive.

Fans at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium will be expecting nothing short of a strong performance from Chipolopolo, who have built a reputation for their fast-paced and physical style of play.

Zambia’s home advantage, combined with the pressure to deliver, sets the stage for an intense and competitive encounter.

As the match approaches, Zambia remains cautious but confident, knowing that they have the tools and talent to overcome Chad.

A win on Friday would bring them one step closer to securing their place in AFCON 2025, but anything less could leave their fate hanging in the balance.

Both teams will be eager to make their mark in this crucial qualifier, knowing that every point counts as the road to AFCON narrows.
