Former Senegalese international Diomansy Kamara has publicly criticized Marc Brys for his recent comments about Samuel Eto’o, calling on the Belgian coach to show greater humility and respect towards one of Africa’s football legends.
Kamara’s remarks came during an appearance on the Canal+ program “Talents d’Afrique,” where the discussion focused on tensions within Cameroon’s national team.
The ex-footballer did not hold back in expressing his displeasure over Brys’ remarks, which were made in a Belgian media outlet and perceived as an attack on Eto’o, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
“I did not appreciate the statement by coach Marc Brys, which was full of condescension.
In my opinion, a coach like that would not even have a place in a European selection,” Kamara stated, underscoring his belief that Brys’ attitude was inappropriate.
He added, “He is in Cameroon to give us moral lessons, but he should show much more humility.
There are two camps in this story: those who support the ministry and those who are on Samuel Eto’o’s side. Some are wrong, others are right, but we cannot come and stir up tensions and pose as saviors.”
Kamara emphasized the need for Brys to acknowledge Eto’o’s contributions to both Cameroon and the African continent.
“Marc Brys must respect Samuel Eto’o for everything he has accomplished, both for Cameroon and for the entire African continent.
Let’s hope that the situation calms down, because it harms the image of African football and a great country like Cameroon,” he said.
Reflecting on the broader challenges facing Cameroon’s football landscape, Kamara suggested that the nation often appears to create difficulties for itself.
“Does this surprise us? Cameroon is a country apart. It seems like it likes to get itself into difficulty, and it is precisely in these moments that it is strongest.
We laugh about it sometimes, but personally, it hurts me,” he remarked. “Cameroon is a country that has made us all dream with legends like Roger Milla and many others. It is a giant of the continent.”
Kamara’s comments highlight the ongoing tensions within Cameroon’s football scene, where disputes between key figures have raised concerns about the unity and future direction of the national team.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the parties involved will heed Kamara’s call for respect and humility, and work towards restoring harmony within Cameroon’s football fraternity.
