Espérance Tunis has officially announced the signing of Larry Azouni, a midfielder previously associated with Olympique de Marseille. The 30-year-old Tunisian player has committed to a two-year contract with the club, extending until June 2026.
Azouni, whose name is well-known in Tunisian football circles, has previously made significant contributions both at the club and international levels.
Although his tenure with Club Africain from 2021 to 2023 was brief, his impact was notable, and his earlier involvement with the Tunisian national team included participation in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
During the tournament, Azouni played in two group stage matches, including a start against Senegal and a substitute appearance against Zimbabwe.
Following a stint with Al-Faisaly in the Saudi second division last season, Azouni returns to Tunisia with a wealth of experience.
His skills in anticipation, game vision, and passing are seen as valuable assets for Espérance Tunis, which is actively enhancing its squad this transfer window.
The addition of Azouni complements recent high-profile signings, such as Youcef Belaïli, reflecting the club’s ambition to strengthen its roster.
Azouni’s career began in his hometown of Marseille, where he was part of Olympique de Marseille’s youth setup from 2006 to 2012.
He made a brief appearance with the senior team during a Europa League match against AEL Limassol in the 2012-2013 season. Subsequently, he was loaned to FC Lorient, where his opportunities were limited, leading to a move to Ligue 2 side Nîmes.
At Nîmes, Azouni enjoyed a more prominent role, appearing in 75 matches over three seasons.
His career took him to Belgium with Courtrai in the Belgian Pro League, where he featured in 64 games. A subsequent move to CD Nacional in Portugal added further international experience to his resume.
Despite a solid season at Nacional, Azouni returned to Tunisia with Club Africain, where he played 39 league matches and featured in the Confederation Cup.
Now, with his move to Espérance Tunis, Azouni aims to bring his extensive experience to one of Tunisia’s top clubs.
At 30, the midfielder, who also reached the final of the Euro Under-19s with France in 2013, is expected to make significant contributions to the Blood and Gold’s midfield, further enhancing their competitive edge in domestic and continental competitions.
